New for Kids this Fall: Artwork
Continuing our blog post series for what’s new for kids this fall, I’m excited to share about our new artwork.
Bible Story Pictures
Teaching kids at church since I was almost a kid myself, I have always taken Bible story pictures for granted. I just assumed there was a big repository of them somewhere. After coming to LifeWay, I have an entirely new appreciation for Bible story pictures. Our team spent significant time discussing and thinking through each and every picture. We wanted to create Biblically and historically accurate visuals that make the content of each Bible story come alive for kids. We sent our requests to the very talented Heath McPherson, and he created the images you will see in the fall.
Compared to the first three-year cycle, you will notice more details and more vivid colors in this cycle. All of the Bible story pictures are included in the Leader Kit on a disc for printing, or you can purchase a Poster Pack that includes 11” x 17” full color posters as well as posters for the Big Picture Questions, Main Points, and Key Passages. Our Bible story pictures are most definitely works of art!
In the first iteration of The Gospel Project for Kids, we went with a thematic approach for our Timeline Map. In this second iteration, we decided to go with a more traditional timeline. This linear representation is sure to connect with concrete learners and help kids clearly see the chronology of the Bible stories. The Giant Timeline will prove particularly helpful while studying the divided kingdom. You will also notice that the artwork is exclusively Bible-centric rather than thematic. At a whopping 30 feet, the Giant Timeline will certainly make a statement in your large group space or a well traveled hallway.
Big Story Circle (Update: This links to the digital version. The print version is included as a bonus with the Giant Timeline)
Of all the new artwork for the fall, the Big Story Circle is the piece I am most excited about. When you order the Giant Timeline, you get the 6’x8’ Big Story Circle as a bonus. The Giant Timeline and Small Group Timeline depict the linear chronology we teach, but the Big Story Circle visually captures the heart of the gospel message we proclaim. Immediately you notice the cross in the center of the circle. All of the artwork points to the cross in the center, reminding kids as well as leaders that the Bible points to Jesus as the center of God’s plan of redemption. Follow the arrow and notice how we return full circle back to “In the beginning…” The circle reminds us that the gospel is not just about the redemption of individuals but the redemption of all of creation. One day God will fully heal and restore His creation that was broken by the fall. Display this piece in your large group space or a hallway, teaching kids to anticipate that day when God makes all things new. “Come, Lord Jesus!”
Small Group Timeline
The Small Group Timeline replaces the Small Group Visual Pack. The Small Group Timeline is designed for small group spaces that cannot accommodate the size of the Giant Timeline. The unit titles, full-color Bible story pictures, and Bible passages are listed on each one. You will notice the Small Group Timeline has the parchment paper look that is replacing the grid paper as our standard background.
Books of the Bible Posters
This cycle, we have also created 66 Bible Book posters that will help kids understand God’s big story told through the individual books of the Bible. The Books of Bible posters give historical information about the author, the book of the Bible, highlights of events or messages in the book, and a Christ Connection. Display the Bible book posters in your large or small group area. You could also use your Bible book posters as tools for Bible drill, Bible memorization programs, or weeknight small groups.
