From the very beginning, God’s people waited for a Rescuer.
Adam and Eve longed for a Son who would crush the head of the serpent. Moses foretold a prophet greater than he. David waited for a King whose kingdom would never fail. Throughout the centuries prophets wrote and spoke of Him in mysterious ways, and God worked the actions of human beings to prepare the way for Him.
This Christmas season, we are going to explore several passages that pointed them to the Person they longed for:
- The Anointed One (Psalm 2)
- The Shepherd (Ezekiel 34)
- The Branch (Jeremiah 23, 33)
- The Servant (Isaiah 42)
- The King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Isaiah 9:1-10)
- The Family Line of the King (Matthew 1:1-17)
Today, we no longer wait for the King to be revealed. The One God’s people only glimpsed can now be seen in His fullness. The Rescuer has arrived. He is Jesus Christ, God’s only Son.
This is the good news they waited for, and the good news we celebrate.
