A devotional thought from Rey De Armas from “Do Not Lie”
Read: Psalm 121:7-8
It seems like we have become a society obsessed with security. There are many different ways that we can protect ourselves from each other. There are laws in place that govern society and have consequences designed to scare us from hurting each other. We have policemen who enforce the laws and protect us from harm. You can purchase an alarm system designed to call the police and make noise should your house be broken into. You can also place cameras that can be accessed at all times through the Internet so that you can make sure that your home is protected even while you are away. If all of this were not enough, you could either purchase a weapon, such as a gun, or become a weapon by taking martial arts classes.
Protection is important to us. The amazing thing about protection is that God’s Word promises that we have protection from God. It says He will protect us from all harm. He will be the One who protects our life. We do not need to live a life of fear and doubt because God has promised that He will be the One who defends us. This is a wonderful promise to rest in! We can trust that God will make good on His promise to defend us from anything that we may face.
Nevertheless, you can feel free to purchase an alarm, camera, weapons, or anything else that will help you feel safe. But know that ultimately your protection is found in the hands of the sovereign King who promises to protect us. He will protect our coming and going in this moment and on into the future. What are the fearful things in life that keep you from accomplishing much for God? He has promised to defend you. There is nothing else you could need.
Pause & Reflect:
• How are you trusting God to defend you?
• What fearful thing in life is keeping you from accomplishing something for God?
• Pray and thank God for this promise over your life.
