On occasion, the yearly calendar falls in a unique way. We typically have 13 weeks in a quarter, which correspond to the 13 sessions we have in each edition of The Gospel Project, but it is possible to have 12 or even 14 weeks. The Summer 2014 quarter is one with 14 weeks, which can present a challenge to our ongoing curriculum expectations.
Rather than trying to cram an extra session into our guides and shorten the other 13, we opted to make a full-length special session available here—”Christian Citizens: Living Under God and Government,” written by Marty Duren, the manager of social media strategy at LifeWay Christian Resources. In the table of contents of our Leader and Personal Study Guides, you will see that we recommend this session for the week of 7.6.14, the Sunday following the 4th of July.
When you choose to use this lesson is certainly up to you, but when you do, we hope it challenges everyone to examine what the Bible says about how Christians should respond to and interact with the governments that God has placed over them. May we speak and act toward our government in such a Christlike way that King Jesus is lifted up and draws people to Himself.
