A devotional thought from Ken Fentress for “Jesus Reconciles”
Everything? Does the Bible make the assertion that Christ created everything? Absolutely! Colossians 1:16 says, “For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.”
This is one of the most profound truths of the Christian faith. Jesus Christ is the Beginning and the End of all things. This theological assertion by the apostle Paul is foundational to our faith as Christians. It affirms the nature of our Savior. He is God the eternal Son. He is the sovereign Lord. He is the Foundation and Fulfillment of all creation!
These truths strengthen and affirm our faith in Christ. He is our Creator and therefore is qualified to be our Savior. John 1:3-4 says, “All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created. Life was in Him and that life was the light of men.” When we understand these truths about our Savior, He will be exalted in us and we will be transformed, encouraged, and strengthened in Him.
As Creator, Christ knows everything about us because He created us. He created us in the image of God (Gen. 1:26-27). Therefore, He is our all-sufficient Savior. He not only created us but He has also re-created us through His death and resurrection (2 Cor. 5:17-18). Christ has made us new through His ministry of reconciliation to us. He who created all things has re-created us in Himself.
Pause and Reflect
• In what ways does recognizing Christ as Creator and Savior impact our understanding of Him?
• What are some signs that indicate God is re-creating you in Christ?
