What’s Up With This Second Hour for Kids Worship?
We’re going to take some time and help answer some of the questions we’ve been hearing about the new resources. One question that we’ve heard many times is about the second hour of worship resources for The Gospel Project for Kids.
The Gospel Project for Kids provides a full second hour of worship content in both the preschool plan and the kids plan. Here are some facts about the worship plans:
- includes theme decorating suggestions, each unit of study is a separate stand alone theme
- 60 minutes of activity ideas
- additional activity suggestions you won’t find in the Bible Study plan
- same Bible story content
- preschool plan has both large group and small group elements
- kids plan designed to be one large group but could be flexible
- giving opportunities
- four songs per unit with fun videos–that’s 12 preschool worship songs and 12 kids worship songs per quarter
- adds mission stories and sometimes mission videos to generate awareness of missions around the world
When Can I Use It?
If your church does a second hour of kids worship after Bible study and you desire to continue the learning throughout, this plan is for you. The worship experience however does not have to follow up the Bible study plan. Do you have an extra hour a week that you need to fill and you don’t have kids worship? maybe Sunday night? Tuesday afternoon? Wednesday? Small groups during the week? You can plug this plan in during that hour and reinforce the learning the kids had during Bible study. This worship resource gives you the flexibility to teach and reinforce on your timetable and still drive home the truths of God’s Word.

Do you have a place where I can download everything for one of the lessons including the second hour.
Sure, Beau. If you click on “Join the Project” at the top of this page you can download the first month’s curriculum for free. That will include the worship lessons. Let us know how you like it.
Awesome. Thanks
Hi! What’s the intended age for the “Younger Kids” and “Older Kids”?
We are really leaving that up to the individual church but the material for younger kids is developed so you can have either K-2 or 1-3 so if kindergartners are included in school age in your church it should work fine. Older kids materials are designed for 3-5 or 4-6 graders.
Have you heard from anyone that is using a large group/small group model in Kids Worship? I’m trying to figure out if we can “retrofit” this wonderful curriculum into our current model. We are together for worship, then large group instruction than we split into grade & gender divided small groups.
Janet– many churches are using a similar model and I think the curriculum would fit perfectly for something like that! We created the elements so that you can use them however you’d like!
I am Egyptian how to download
Near the top of this page there is a link that shows the cover for The Gospel Project for Kids. Under the cover you will find a link that says “Purchase”. If you click the link you will be taken to another screen that gives you options for “View Digital Options” and for “View Print Options”. If you click the digital option you should be able to choose the bundle you would like and order it with no problem.
We currently use Bible Teaching for Kids and Worship Kidstyle for children’s church, and like how they go together. But we are looking at The Gospel Project. Is the second hour material comparable to Worship Kidstyle?
Justin, the Worship plan for The Gospel Project for Kids is different from Worship KidStyle in that it is designed as a large group experience. Worship KidStyle utilizes application activities that are designed to be done in small groups but The Gospel Project for Kids does not include any small group elements as a part of the worship. There may be ways you can adapt some activities to fit if you are using small groups in your kids worship time at your church. Apart from that the resources are similar.
I use the “Worship” Lesson plan to introduce the lesson one week and then we dive into small groups the next week. I’m getting two weeks out of each week’s lesson plan.
Thanks Katie for that suggestion.
Looking back at the post I may have missed though that the worship lesson plan is only available with the purchase of the Bible Study material. You cannot purchase only the worship portion of The Gospel Project for Kids, it’s only sold as part of the Kit with Worship, or the Essentials Pro Bundle as a download.
Tim,
If there is ever an option to only buy the Worship bundle, I’d love that. Because we have our own small group process for engaging the Key Passages each week, I don’t really need the Bible Study for small groups and prefer the greater Large group creativity of the Worship set. As it sits now, I have to buy stuff I won’t use in order to get the Worship book and the DVD & CD.
We have a rotation of adult leaders for kid worship rather than having the same leader each week. Does each person need their own leader guide or are the weeks perforated or loose like worship kidstyle so that they can be distributed easily to the leaders?
I just reviewed the first month and noticed for the kids worship, it is written in a way that the same person needs to lead each week. Does it continue this way, or does it become so that it can be led by a different person each week?
I am trying to download the videos for the free month to see if it would work for my church. I am not able to get it to download. Can you tell me how to do it. I can’t use internet at my church because it will not pick up in the church building so I can’t do it that way. I have to download it.
We are a church plant and are trying to be strategic with our resources. Is there a way to get the Kids Bible Study and add the Preschool Worship material?
Thanks,
Aaron
I have use Worship Kidstyle and will start TGP in SS and my Worship hours on Sunday. I am having a difficult time preparing for my worship session because there is so much “speaking” time from the leader. I feel like I have to memorize a entire script just for the first few minutes. Then the Bible Story, then the Mission Story. It just seems it does not give the kids “fun” moving around like Worship Kidstyle does. I’m not sure that my K-2 graders will stay focused that long. Any suggestions?
Don’t feel limited by the script, Lisa. If you feel your kids need more activities, feel free to choose from the activities, music, and games provided in the materials. If you have a teaching style that works for you and your kids, take a stab at making the materials work for YOU!
Is there a separate book for Sunday School and Kid’s Worship because our books appear to be exactly the same and it is redundant.
Hi, Kim. Yes there is a separate book for Kids Worship. The front of the leader guide should say “Kids Worship Guide” for the second hour material. If that is not what you have it should be in the kit your church ordered. Let me know if you do not have it.
Thanks!
Kim,
I love this material, but have found I have to teach it my way with additions. My ss classes don’t watch the video the teachers tell the bible story. I watch the video and review it in my worships. I also use the mission section and have added some download video clips from NAMB and IMB. The games are pretty good in the worship book.
I just found out The kids Worship leader is using the very same video and games and songs I use in my 2nd & 3rd grade SS class. The kids tell me they hate doing everything twice back to back. Is this what everybody is doing?
I noticed the same thing when we started back in Sept. Coming from Worship Kidstyle it was frustrating. I teach 2 kids worships and rotate SS classes by age groups. I use the bible video in kid’s worship not in the ss class. My ss teachers tell the story. They use all the printed tools that go with their lesson, I don’t. I use the games in the worship book and I use the missions and countdown in worship. The only thing my teachers use is the lesson clip discussion starter. They have printed posters for the BPQ and Bible Verse. They go into the hallway to visit the “timeline map”. Does that help? I run a 75 minute worship.
